Ceramic Artist

As a result of a life changing brain accident, I began a search for a new way to satisfy my artistic interests. Having been a lifelong artist, something needed to replace my 30-40 years of drawing animals in a realism style. I found my love for animals could be transferred to clay without the need for exacting details required in pen and ink drawing. I found myself relieved to no longer struggle to perfect what nature had already created.

I was euphoric to find I could embrace creative license in clay. I have become confident in my own style and enjoy a whimsy versus realism version my work. I have entered and placed in many important shows within Northern California quite often. Through my website, I receive and develop many commission pieces for clients. Yet, I continue to explore many multi-faceted directions with my work.

I love the excitement of walking into my studio with no preconceived ideas regarding my days build. I am inspired by my quirky sense of humor and share it with my animals. Whimsy has given them a presence of their own. This approach gives my animals an opportunity to become who the clay dictates. I can adjust shape and direction of brows, elongate rabbit ears and give the head a little tilt. This and hand painted eyes help present a number of emotions. Adding unexpected accessories like clay shoes and ceramic overalls tells another set of stories my animals want to share. I believe everyone of my animals speak to their own narrative upon completion.

Becoming a new full member of The Artery Gallery, 207 G Street, Davis California, has given me a more valued presence in Northern California. Davis is a University town, well bedded in art, intellect and creative living. This Gallery serves the community, it’s visiting students and families while presenting me with a showcase made for the world of my WHIMSY.
